We're now seeking talented underwriters in Australia to join our team and play a pivotal role in shaping the global future of finance in regenerative agriculture. Learn more about our work at
Role Description
Relationships are everything at Steward. You'll work with leaders in regenerative agriculture and regional food systems, supporting groundbreaking businesses and helping them secure the funding they need to thrive. You'll play a critical role in evaluating the financial viability of these innovative ventures, ensuring their success while safeguarding Steward's financial interests. This is a unique opportunity to combine financial expertise with human connections to make a lasting impact on the future of food.
Steward is fully remote and seeking underwriters on a contract basis for 20-40 hours per month. Depending on your experience and availability, responsibilities may include:
Analyzing loan applications: Reviewing borrower information, financial statements, credit reports, and other documentation to assess creditworthiness and risk.
Developing financial models: Creating sophisticated but easily decipherable models to assess the financial health and long-term viability of potential borrowers.
Conducting business analyses: Performing comprehensive analyses, utilizing market research and industry insights, to determine alignment with Steward's lending criteria.
Evaluating collateral: Assessing the value and quality of assets pledged as collateral to secure the loan.
Calculating financial ratios: Evaluating the borrower's financial health and performance to provide insights into their liquidity, profitability, solvency, and efficiency.
Reviewing legal documents: Examining loan agreements, title documents, and other legal paperwork to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Communicating with Steward's lending team and borrowers: Maintaining clear and effective communication throughout the loan application and underwriting process.
Preparing loan summaries and recommendations: Documenting the underwriting process and providing clear recommendations to loan committees or decision-makers.
Making underwriting decisions: Presenting to the loan committee and gaining approval of loan applications based on established guidelines and risk assessment.
