**The opportunity we have available**
The Classification Branch plays a vital role in protecting Australians from potentially harmful or offensive content. We provide expert advice, education, and support on classifying films, computer games, and publications. Our work empowers Australians to make informed choices and protects children from inappropriate content. We also support industry and oversee the Classification (Publications, Films and Computer Games) Act 1995 and the National Classification Scheme.
As an Assistant Director, you will lead and mentor a team responsible for assisting industry to comply with classification legislation, supporting the Classification Board and Classification Review Board, identifying risk and opportunities to improve systems and processes, evaluating and reporting on the classification regulatory framework, and contributing to the development of classification policy in Australia.

**Key Responsibilities**
- **Leadership**: Provide expert guidance on classification matters, legislation, and policy. Cultivate a high-performing team, driving operational excellence and ensuring adherence to standards. Effectively manage competing priorities, navigate ambiguity, and implement change. Identify and mitigate risks.
- **Decision Making**: Exercise sound judgment on complex classification matters. Communicate with influence, including senior management. Conduct thorough analysis and risk assessment to inform decisions. Understand the impact of decisions on the agency and the broader community.
- **Stakeholder Engagement**: Build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including the Classification Board, industry, and government agencies. Collaborate effectively, represent the agency's position with authority, and manage relationships through change.
**Core Duties**
- Lead team, build capability and expertise, manage performance and develop skills such as problem solving and managing risk.
- Foster proactive relationships with a range of key stakeholders including industry, peak bodies, government agencies, and department corporate areas.
- Provide support to the Classification Board and Classification Review Board in fulfilling their functions.
- Promote industry compliance with the legislative requirements under the National Classification Scheme.
- Manage the preparation of a range of high-quality products including correspondence, reports, and briefings, regulatory performance evaluation and reporting. Drive improvements to the classification regulatory framework through project management, communication, and performance evaluation.
**Other Requirements**:
- The role may involve some travel to Canberra.
- You may be required to view challenging or objectionable content.
Note: A merit pool will be established for 18 months to fill similar vacancies
