An exciting opportunity has become available for a **School Based** **Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Body Builder and Repairer **to join the team at McHarry's Buslines.
You will be part of a team responsible for repairing and maintaining buses and coaches. They will learn how to use various tools and techniques to construct and repair vehicle bodies, frames, and other components to bring heavy vehicles back to their original condition.
You will work alongside experienced professionals who will mentor and guide you through the learning process. The role involves physical work, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions and work well as part of a team. **What is Heavy Vehicle Body Building?**
Body Building refers to the specialised craft of skilfully fabricating and installing custom bodies onto the chassis of a variety of heavy vehicles. Throughout the apprenticeship, this intricate process will develop their practical skills and build expertise in the craft of body building.
The qualification that you will attain is the **Certificate III in Automotive Manufacturing technical Operations - Bus, Truck and Trailer**.
**What you will learn**:
As an Apprentice Body Builder and Repairer at McHarry's Buslines, you will learn:
- **Welding and Fabrication**: Assist in welding and fabricating heavy vehicle body components, ensuring structural integrity and quality.
- **Assembly and Installation**:Participate in assembling and installing body parts, such as panels, roofs, and doors, using precision techniques.
- **Repair and Maintenance**:Aid in diagnosing and repairing damaged vehicle bodies, restoring them to optimal condition.
- **Tool and Equipment Operation**: Gain proficiency in operating tools and equipment, including power tools and cutting machinery.
- **Quality Assurance**:Collaborate to ensure finished products meet quality standards, performing inspections and adjustments as needed.
- **Safety Compliance**:Follow safety protocols and guidelines, promoting a secure work environment for yourself and colleagues.
- **Documentation**:Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and project progress.
**As an apprentice your duties will include**:
- Undertake repairs to body framework such as removal and replacement of damaged framework eg. By cutting, grinding and welding framework
- Remove old body panels (fibreglass, glass & metal panels), build and fit new body panels to vehicle
- Repair panel damage using body filler, and prepare for coating
- Remove and refit bumper bars, wipers, mirrors etc.
- Build and fit school bus signs, marker plates and 'do not overtake' plates
- Fit out vehicle with signage and decal requirements
- Ensure that all work within the area is carried out according to company standards on safety, quality and timeliness
- Provide updates to Panelshop Leading Hand on the progress of allocated work
- Provide support to areas of the Panelshop / Workshop as required

**NOTE**: As a school based apprentice you must be still enrolled at secondary school and have approval from your school to undertake a School Based apprenticeship as part of your school program.
