**About us**

The Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL) is a leading Australian infectious diseases reference laboratory located in Melbourne, Victoria. VIDRL is now part of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (the Doherty). The Doherty is a joint venture between Melbourne Health and the University of Melbourne.

**About the role**
- This role involves working in a fast-paced environment as part of the Specimen Reception team, which is responsible for receiving, processing and registering all clinical samples. As a Pathology Technician, you will support the work we do to provide an efficient Public Health diagnostic laboratory testing service for the state of Victoria. This role will be required to work Monday to Friday day shifts and participate in an evening roster (1.00pm to 9.30pm) if and when required.
- Accurately receipt, process and triage clinical samples
- Pre and post analytical specimen handling.
- Identification and prioritisation of urgent specimens;
- Processing samples in a timely manner
- Storage of specimens;
- Data entry
- Respond to sample requirements and general queries
- Identifying and resolving problems at the pre-analytical stage
- Participate in all housekeeping laboratory duties
- Assist in other duties as directed
- Participate in training as required

**About you**
- Have excellent attention to detail
- Ability to organise and prioritise tasks with excellent time management skills
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skill
- Work closely and collaboratively within a team
- Provide excellent customer service
- Willing to participate in evening rosters (1.00pm to 9.30pm) if and when required
- Previous experience in a pathology laboratory desirable
