***Industrial Relations Victoria (IRV)**
Industrial Relations Victoria (IRV) provides strategic industrial relations legislative, policy and technical advice to Government and departments. IRV engages with employers, employees and their representatives, to support a positive industrial relations environment and advocate for fair and secure work and gender pay equity, IRV consists of two branches plus the Office of the Deputy Secretary:
- Private Sector Industrial Relations
- Public Sector Industrial Relations
The **Private Sector Industrial Relations** branch provides expert advice and assistance to Government on private sector industrial relations matters. The branch supports government participation in the development and maintenance of the national industrial relations system and leads responses and submissions to major industrial relations matters, including long service leave, child employment, owner drivers and labour hire, and works closely with regulators including the Wage Inspectorate Victoria, Labour Hire Licensing Authority and Portable Long Service Benefits Authority.
**About the role**
The Principal Legal Policy Adviser will assist in leading and providing expert legal policy advice and support in relation to the implementation of the National Labour Hire Regulator. This is a key project delivered by Industrial Relations Victoria.
In working on this project, you may contribute to provision of advice relating to development and review of policy and legislation; intergovernmental agreements; and associated documentation as required.
**Key accountabilities**
- Lead and manage industrial relations legislation, policy, programs and initiatives to achieve the Government's priorities affecting the private sector, in particular to support the national labour hire licensing scheme.
- Provide high level legislative and legal policy advice to Ministers and senior DPC staff on industrial relations issues affecting the private sector.
- Prepare high quality ministerial briefs, written reports and correspondence on industrial relations matters.
- Develop and maintain networks and relationships with key external and Government stakeholders regarding industrial relations issues and regulation.
- Engage and manage external legal consultants or other specialists as required.
**About you**
- Demonstrated relevant expertise in the provision of strategic and legal policy advice on complex and sensitive issues to senior stakeholders.
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical and written communication skills and a proven ability to provide pragmatic, concise, written and verbal policy advice based on comprehensive research.
- An excellent understanding of government legal policy, legislative and regulatory frameworks, requirements and processes.
- Proven ability to negotiate and influence others to achieve strategic objectives and high-level capability in building strong, productive relationships and to engage stakeholders.
- A willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities with the ability to meet deadlines while working in pressured situations
- A relevant tertiary degree in law is highly desirable.
