An exciting opportunity exists for a talented and highly motivated individual to join the Private Sector Industrial Relations team within Industrial Relations Victoria as Principal Legal Policy Adviser at the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
The Department of Premier and Cabinet is seeking a law and policy expert to help implement the Victorian Government's industrial relations agenda and support secure and equitable work-related projects.
This Principal Legal Policy Adviser will assist in leading and providing expert legal policy advice and support to implement the Victorian Government's response to the Inquiry into the Victorian On-Demand Workforce (the Inquiry). This is a key project delivered by Industrial Relations Victoria. In working on this project, you may contribute to provision of advice relating to worker protections for the on-demand or gig workforce; development and review of legislation and related reforms to support the implementation of the Government's response to the Inquiry.
In this role you will also provide strategic and expert advice on broader industrial relations policy issues and legislative reforms to support Victoria's participation in the national industrial relations system and state/federal relations (such as proposed legislative reforms for gig workers, wage theft or labour hire).
The successful applicant will demonstrate experience and expertise in the provision of high-quality legal policy advice combined with a comprehensive knowledge of industrial relations matters and legislative processes; high level analytical and conceptual skills; a proactive, strategic approach, and excellent communication and writing skills.
- Demonstrated relevant expertise in the provision of strategic and legal policy advice on complex and sensitive issues.
- Excellent understanding of government legal policy, legislative and regulatory frameworks, requirements and processes.
- Highly developed conceptional analytical and written communication skills and a proven ability to provide pragmatic, concise, written and verbal policy advice.
- Proven ability to negotiate and influence others to achieve strategic objectives and high level capability in building strong, productive relationships and to engage stakeholders.
- Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities with the ability to meet deadlines while working in pressured situations.
