This role will involve leading and developing a portfolio of research projects, securing funding and contributing to the strategic direction of the program as well as progressively taking on independent leadership responsibilities.Our ideal candidate would be a mid-career clinician researcher with a strong track record in achieving independent research funding who is keen to further their research and take on a leadership role in a multidisciplinary global research organisation.If you have a passion and vision for respiratory research and the capability to lead and develop a strong and productive research team, we would like to hear from you.Key Responsibilities and Duties:Maintain high level oversight of ongoing studies and contribute to all research activities within the Respiratory ProgramLead aspects of grant writing and submissions for new projects, secure personal research funding through competitive grants, institutional support, philanthropy and commissioned researchSupport current projects to ensure optimal trial and execution and team engagementProvide expert input during the research meetings, guide high impact publications, reports and reviewsFoster a productive, collaborative team culture, build strategic partnerships within and beyond The George InstituteDevelop and maintain national and international networks to support program goals.Attend project meetings, ensure research aligns with global best practices and oversee budget managementModel and promote TGI's values and strategic goals in all interactions and communicationsParticipate in teaching and student supervision at TGI and UNSWCollaborate across TGI regions to support team developmentFor more information on this role, please see our detailed Position Description hereSkills, Knowledge and Experience/ Our Successful CandidateRelevant health/ medical qualificationPhD in a relevant health related disciplineSeasoned Researcher or Leader of a small research theme within a programExperience in the management of research projects and/or clinical trialsDemonstrated track record in application and procurement of grants and fundsExperienced in writing high impact research papersExperience and/or ability in people management and primary supervisor of post-graduate studentsAdvanced technical writing and oral presentation skillsStrong decision making, problem solving, analytical skills, and strategic thinkingDemonstrated capacity to develop collaborations within and external to the home organisationStrong leadership and mentoring skillsDemonstrated experience with budget proposals and developmentProficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; familiar with statistical analysis programs such as R or SASExcellent interpersonal skills and enjoys working in and developing teamsAbility to work well and flexibly i.e. autonomously, in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholdersAbility to see the big picture, yet still focus on detailAvailability and willingness to travelFlexibility to work non-standard hours of work for collaboration and contact with global teams based on requirements of the positionThe closing date for applications is21 August 2025.We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if a suitable candidate is foundThe unrestricted right to work in Australia is a requirement for this position.
