You will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team to support the development of laser systems for defence related projects. Through your experience of optical systems, you will be actively involved in delivering work packages related to novel optical systems. The role will be predominantly hands on in the lab and may suit a PhD student looking for casual, relevant employment.

**As a Research Assistant your responsibilities will include**:
Aligning, assembling and testing optical systems.

Providing input into the design and testing of optical systems.

Operating and working with Class 4 laser systems.

To be successful in the role of Research Assistant you will need to bring with you:
Demonstrated scientific expertise through appropriate qualifications (eg Masters/PhD - completed or studying towards) or equivalent technical experience.

Working knowledge of lasers systems, optics, and basic properties of laser beams.

Experience in setting up or constructing laser orientated experiments or products.

Experience of research programmes involving experiment and analysis.

Experience of working with laboratory test and measurement equipment.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Demonstrated ability to work well independently.
