**Role**:
**Learning Specialist - School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)**
- The role of the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Learning Specialist is integral to developing and sustaining a positive climate for learning at our College. The central function of the role is to facilitate the implementation of the East Doncaster Secondary College SWPBS model with a specific emphasis on assisting staff with the teaching and reinforcing of positive behaviours that in turn lead to a more successful and inclusive learning environment. The School Wide Positive Behaviours Learning Specialist is accountable to the Assistant Principal responsible for Student Wellbeing and Engagement.
**Professional Practice**
Learning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning programs. They have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise including observing and providing feedback to other teachers and delivering school-based professional learning. Learning Specialists play a role in the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan and as such have a direct impact on student learning and wellbeing.
**Typical Duties**:
The Key roles of the Learning Specialist for School Wide Positive Behaviours Supports will include but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with the leadership team in the further development and implementation of the School Wide Positive Behaviours framework for the College
- Model, coach, mentor and advise staff in the use of positive behaviour support strategies and relevant learning interventions that promote higher levels of student engagement.
- Support staff in the implementation of the SWPBS Behaviour Matrix
- Support teacher in the implementation of expected classroom routines
- Facilitate appropriate professional learning for staff that supports positive student engagement with learning.
- Work closely with the Sub-school Assistant Principals and co-ordination teams to identify teachers in need of SWPBS coaching.
- Collaborate with sub-school teams to develop the EDSC SWPBS handbook
- Promote and model effective student management (in and outside their own classrooms) consistent with the implementation of the SWPBS framework.
**Responsibilities**:
- In recognition of the importance of exemplary practice for improved student learning outcomes, the key roles of the Learning Specialists may include but are not limited to:
- Demonstrating high-level expertise in teaching and learning practice
- Modelling exemplary classroom practice including through teaching demonstration lessons
- Working with the school leadership team to develop a shared view of highly effective teacher practice
- Leading and modelling the implementation of whole-school improvement strategies related to curriculum planning and delivery
- Playing a key role in the provision of professional learning, including through developing processes and protocols for observation and feedback of teacher practice and peer collaboration
- Modelling effective learning practice and supporting teachers to seek, analyse and act on feedback and on their practice
- Providing evidence-based feedback to teaching staff to inform their effectiveness and development
