Overview
The Solvar story began in 2000, with two office locations serving a few thousand consumers in Melbourne.
Fast forward to today, and we are an ASX-listed market leader in consumer and business lending.
We serve over 100,000 customers and are rapidly establishing ourselves as one of Australia's most innovative financial services firms.
We're passionate about what we do, who we do it for, and wholeheartedly believe in our shared purpose: 'Helping to solve life's financial needs'.
Solvar Group is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer to join our growing BI team.
This is your chance to work at the heart of data transformation: Designing pipelines, building dashboards, and delivering insights that drive strategic decisions across the business.
About the Role
As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will be responsible for producing and enhancing recurring and ad-hoc reports that support our business units at every level.
You will develop financial dashboards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and other visualisations that provide actionable insights, enabling teams to track progress and make data-driven decisions with confidence.
You will design, manage and optimise Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes to ensure the smooth movement and transformation of large data sets from diverse sources.
Maintaining the accuracy, security, and reliability of our Data Vault warehouse will be crucial, as you work to ensure that business-critical data is always accessible, dependably accurate and ready for analysis.
By applying statistical and analytical methods, you'll uncover meaningful patterns and emerging trends within our data.
Your analysis will support customer segmentation initiatives and inform risk profiling, playing a key part in shaping business strategy and improving customer outcomes.
You'll actively contribute to establishing and refining our data governance policies and reporting frameworks.
This includes helping to define best practices, set standards, and plan the roadmap for scalable analytics solutions that will grow alongside the business.
Leveraging the Microsoft BI stack—including Power BI, SQL Server, and Azure—you'll create robust, secure, and scalable business intelligence systems.
Collaboration with cross-functional teams is key, as you will design and implement solutions that must deliver real financial value across the organisation.
You'll write production-quality, maintainable and well-tested code as you develop our BI architecture.
You will add value in system and solution design discussions, supporting innovation while ensuring that all systems meet the highest standards of quality and performance.
You will provide accurate estimations and deliver as committed; maintain visibility of ongoing backlog delivery through Jira and agile ceremonies; maintain high professional standards in respecting definition of ready and definition to done, particularly with regards to robust testing, quality control and minimising defect rates.
About You
We value excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
You thrive in collaborative environments, translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.
You have between three to five years of practical experience in business intelligence and data engineering, demonstrating a strong track record of designing, developing, and managing BI solutions in a dynamic environment.
Your technical expertise includes advanced proficiency in programming languages and exceptional SQL skills, enabling you to efficiently query, manipulate, and optimise large and complex data sets for meaningful analysis.
You are well-versed in Power BI and the broader Microsoft BI stack, including SQL Server and Azure, using these tools to build scalable and secure dashboards and data solutions that meet the diverse needs of stakeholders across the organisation.
Your education reflects a solid foundation in quantitative and analytical disciplines, such as computer science, statistics, business analytics, or a related field, equipping you with the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary for high-quality BI work.
You excel at gathering requirements, managing expectations, and fostering productive relationships with colleagues from a wide range of disciplines, ensuring that BI solutions align with evolving business priorities and deliver real value at every level of the organisation.
