An exciting opportunity exists for a passionate and experienced health and safety data analyst to join the department and improve the health, safety and wellbeing of our principals, school and department employees.

**About the Department**

The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

**About the Division**

**Employee Safety, Wellbeing and Inclusion Division**

The Employee Safety, Wellbeing and Inclusion Division (ESWI Division) is committed to the Department's vision to create safe, healthy, respectful and inclusive working environments for Department employees to thrive and succeed.

The ESWI Division performs its functions through five branches that span from prevention with a focus on employee mental health, through to response and recovery, along with strategy, advice and support, and diversity and inclusion. These teams adopt a holistic approach for supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of our workforce across schools, central and regional offices. This includes Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Workers' Compensation policy advice and support, for both physical and mental health and wellbeing, diversity and inclusion initiatives.

The objectives of the ESWI Division are to:

- promote positive wellbeing in working environments, including by proactively supporting and protecting employee mental health
- prevent against known and expected risks to health, safety and wellbeing
- respond swiftly and effectively to manage potential issues as they emerge and prevent injuries
- support employees to recover from injury and illness, and return to work
- promote respectful and inclusive workplaces that upholds equal opportunity and prevents discrimination, bullying, harassment and sexual harassment
- promote human rights and workforce diversity and inclusion.

**About the Role**

The **Health and Safety Data Analyst** is a critical role providing expert data governance, monitoring, reporting and analysis to improve health, safety and workers' compensation performance and outcomes and prevent and mitigate risks.

Current priorities (that may evolve over time) include reporting and monitoring key health and safety metrics for our school and corporate workforce to Executives, stakeholder committees and/or undertaking review and evaluation projects as required.

The incumbent will work with qualitative and quantitative data to report effectively and to measure impact and generate insights that enable informed decision-making to prevent and mitigate health and safety risks and improve health, safety and wellbeing.

This role requires:

- the ability to analyse data from a variety of sources (mostly administrative and survey data) to measure outcomes and create actionable insights for health and safety prevention and to support workers compensation performance.
- data literacy and the ability to maintain strong data governance and colllection
- the ability to communicate insights through written analysis on reports, written briefs and options papers to enable effective decision-making
- the ability to undertake analysis to identify and contribute to the development of policies to improve the health, safety and wellbeing of employees
- project management skills to plan and deliver projects including contract management skills, identifying risks, establishing governance, monitoring, evaluating performance and ensuring continuous improvement
- stakeholder management skills including the ability to consult, negotiate and influence key stakeholders and provide advice to central and regional teams.

**Desirable**Qualifications and Experience**
- Essential: Bachelor's or Postgraduate qualifications in a data and analytical related field i.e. Data Science, Statistics, Econometrics, Operations Research.
- A minimum of 2+ years experience in data analysis and/or quantitative research methods
- Intermediate skills in coding languages (e.g. SQL, R, Python).
- Essential: Qualification and/or work experience in health and safety**or workers compensation.
