**Job Overview**:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Mental Health Mentor to join our team. This role is open to individuals who bring a wealth of lived experience and an understanding of mental health challenges. As a Mental Health Mentor, you will provide emotional support, guidance, and mentorship to various clients. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Provide one-on-one mentoring sessions, offering emotional support, guidance, and coping strategies.
- Assist clients in identifying their mental health goals, working together to develop and implement action plans.
- Promoting well-being and social inclusion.
- Foster a safe, supportive space for clients to express themselves openly, with respect for their values and traditions.
- Collaborating with other healthcare professionals.
- Offer resources, referrals, and tools.
- Track and document client progress, ensuring confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, and adherence to ethical standards.
- Stay informed about mental health challenges affecting various communities, contributing to BCOGNITIVE's ongoing commitment to inclusive support services.
**Qualifications & Skills**:
- Proven experience in a mentoring or mental health support role.
- Strong understanding of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma, with the ability to incorporate cultural context into support strategies.
- Empathetic, patient, and able to establish strong, trusting client relationships.
- Experience with behavioural health programs or therapeutic interventions is a bonus.
- Knowledge of cultural perspectives on mental health and healing practices is a bonus.
- Excellent communication, both written & verbal, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Required certifications and checks:
- Certificate IV Mental Health or equivalent is essential
- Mental Health First Aid Certificate (or working towards) is desirable
- First Aid & CPR
- Full Driver's Licence
- NDIS Screening Check
- NDIS Orientation Module
- Working with Children's Check
- Certificate IV in Individual Support or equivalent
