Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Snowy Hydro Full time

**About the position**:
Are you passionate about ensuring the backbone of an organisation's data infrastructure is robust, secure, and always available? Do you thrive on designing and optimising complex database solutions across diverse platforms? We have an exciting opportunity for a Database Administrator to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in managing our critical data assets. This role is perfect for someone eager to make a significant impact, champion continuous improvement, and elevate their career within a supportive and innovative environment.

As a Database Administrator, you'll be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining robust, secure, and scalable database solutions across Oracle, MongoDB, and various cloud platforms. This role involves actively collaborating with cross-functional teams, ensuring data integrity and performance, and championing continuous improvement throughout the database lifecycle.

This hybrid permanent full-time position can be based out of our Sydney, Melbourne, or Cooma offices.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Designing, building, and maintaining robust, performance-optimised database solutions that are scalable, highly available, and secure, aligning with business requirements and strategic objectives.
- Ensuring "security by design," securing Snowy Hydro's data in transit, at rest, and in compliance with data privacy regulations.
- Establishing and regularly testing robust Disaster Recovery (DR), backup, and archiving strategies for all database systems.
- Leading reviews of new and existing databases and their infrastructure to ensure fitness for purpose, balancing cost and performance.
- Accountable for ensuring hosting infrastructure and underlying SaaS platforms support data requirements, highlighting and addressing maintenance, security, and patching issues.
- Creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation, including SOPs, as-built documentation, database standards, and technical specifications.
- Maintaining and providing second/third-line support for existing database systems through performance tuning, patching, upgrades, and incident management.
- Providing clear visibility and comprehensive reporting on database and infrastructure performance and status for informed, data-related decisions.
- Continuously researching and evaluating emerging database technologies and industry trends to proactively drive improvements in performance, scalability, and resilience.

We're ideally looking for someone with:

- Tertiary qualification in computing and/or 5+ years experience in database administration.
- Proven experience administering, tuning, and troubleshooting Oracle (SQL) and MongoDB databases, including advanced features (e.g., RAC, Data Guard, sharding).
- Demonstrated experience with AWS (preferred), MongoDB Atlas, Azure, and/or GCP cloud database technologies (e.g., RDS, Aurora, DocumentDB, DynamoDB).
- Knowledge of database security best practices (e.g., encryption, access control, auditing, vulnerability management).
- Advanced analysis, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills for complex database and performance issues.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex database concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform) for database provisioning and automation would be beneficial.
- Experience with database DevOps practices, including version control (e.g., Flyway, Liquibase) and CI/CD pipelines, would be advantageous.
- Docker or containerisation experience is desirable.
- Relevant database certifications (e.g., Oracle, MongoDB, AWS Database - Specialty) are highly advantageous.

**About our workforce**:
Snowy Hydro has a culture of decency and inclusion, with a commitment to the health and wellbeing of our people and a supportive environment to ensure that everyone - regardless of background - feels included and can succeed. At Snowy Hydro, we recognise that we are made stronger by the unique capabilities and qualities that each individual brings, and we believe in providing an environment that allows that uniqueness to thrive.
