Challenger Life is currently hiring an Investment Analyst to work with the Associate Portfolio Manager, Equity and Alternatives. The role will be responsible for analysis of existing as well as prospective investments. Given the focus of the hiring manager, this role will be focussed on developing tools for forecasting and simulating portfolio performance for the purposes of asset allocation. The role will require in-depth analysis of a variety of asset classes across fixed income, equities, alternative investments, and property.

Role responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

- The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting with the creation and development of various models for simulating portfolio returns and determining asset allocation.
- The role will assist in using quantitative methods to assess the viability of various investment strategies and allocation plans.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices with regards to asset allocation.
- The role will provide an opportunity to learn about a variety of asset classes across fixed income, equity, liquid strategies, and others, and about modelling, scenario analysis and simulating returns.

About the Team:
The Equity and Alternatives Team manages asset portfolios for Challenger Life. The team is a key stakeholder in the investment process with interaction with the Investment Committee, Financial Risk Committee, and the Board of Challenger Life. The team has the responsibility for managing its risk, capital and liquidity positions in the equity and alternatives portfolio. This process includes determining attractive markets in which to invest, and seeking out, assessing, and negotiating investment opportunities within those markets.

The Equity and Alternatives Teams consists of a team of two portfolio managers reporting through to the Head of Equity and Alternatives. Each portfolio manager within the team is responsible for different asset classes. This role will report to the Associate Portfolio Manager who is responsible for unlisted equity positions in infrastructure, real estate, and private equity.

In addition to managing a portfolio of investments the team is also responsible the asset allocation models for Challenger Life Company - including a proprietary set of models to measure various asset risk premiums and optimise portfolio construction.

Skills Required:
The role is highly technical and demands a genuine interest in the commercial aspects of investing within a Life company. We are looking for the following
- Proven ability to dissect complex data, interpret multifaceted concepts, and make informed, data-driven decisions.
- Strong academic track-record in quantitative disciplines such as Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Actuarial Studies, Finance/Economics etc.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to perform in-depth financial analysis.
- Must have a collaborative and team-first mindset and thrive in a fast-paced and dead-line driven environment.
- Strong Excel / VBA skills essential. Proficiency with Python, or other programming languages such as R, and SQL will be highly advantageous.
- Genuine interest in developing a career within investment management.
