**Where you'll be working**
Full time, part time or job share considered for this role. 6 or 12 month contract available. This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking general medical experience in preparation for BPT or GP training. Monday to Friday 0800 - 1630, after hours commitment is 1 weekend consultant led ward round every 4 weeks.

Auburn Hospital is a 155 bed acute care health facility, including a 10 bed Close Observation Unit, on the eastern border of Western Sydney Local Health District. It is about 11 km from Westmead Hospital. Auburn Hospital has a 24/7 Emergency Department, as well as Special Care Nursery, General Medicine and Surgery.

Auburn is affiliated with the University of Notre Dame as a teaching hospital for medical students. Auburn patients come from a diverse range of ethnic groups including Middle Eastern, South East Asian, African and Pacific Islander as well as Anglo Saxon. 78% of the Auburn population are from Non-English speaking backgrounds. Interpreter services are readily available.

**What you'll be doing**

The Unaccredited Trainee is responsible for assessment of patients, and ongoing day-to-day management under the direction of the appropriate AMO who has legal responsibility for the patient. The unaccredited trainee is responsible for appropriate documentation and communication with other staff members involved in the care of the patient, and has a responsibility for training and supervision of junior medical staff.
- Assessment and formulation of a management plan for patients presenting for care.
- Communication of such assessment and management decisions to the appropriate AMO, junior medical staffs and other staff involved in that patient's medical care.
- Notification to the appropriate AMO of patients requiring acute admission to hospital under their care.
- Each morning to check in the Emergency Department 'White book' for any new patients admitted overnight
- Communication with the patient, or with immediate family, where appropriate about his/her condition and management.
- Ensuring that accurate and relevant patient documentation exists.
- Communicating and coordinating effectively with other health professionals in regard to management plans, diagnostic requests and consultations.
- Regular review of patient progress and communication of any significant changes in the patients' conditions to the AMO and nursing staff.
- Management of all patients admitted under the AMO, even those still located in Emergency because a ward bed is not available.
- Initiation of change to the management plan within limitations set out by agreement with the AMO.
- Management of unstable patients and ensuring an adequate hand-over to after-hours medical staff.
- Liaison with the General Practitioner and Referring Doctor.
- Responsible for ensuring that death and cremation certificates, and all arrangements for autopsy tests are made expeditiously and that appropriate support to the family is given.
- Recording of morbidity and mortality and presenting the same at the monthly M&M meeting. Active participation in the M&M meeting is mandatory.
- The unaccredited trainee is a member of the hospital MET team
- Supervision of junior medical officers
- Participation in the teaching of junior medical staff and medical students.
- Participation in the after-hours roster
- Any other duties at the direction of the Director of Medical Administration.

**Selection Criteria**:

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category
- Completion of at least two (2) years postgraduate years of medical practice with relevant experience in a range of medical terms.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
- High level communication skills, including the ability to convey, and adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non-clinical audience
- Demonstrated good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment
- Demonstrated high level independent clinical skills and judgement, with the ability to make sound decisions and problem solve with an awareness of limitations and ability to learn independently and modify be
