Overview
Head of Learning Area – Humanities and Social Sciences and Languages. Full-time | Ongoing Position | Commencing 2026 or by negotiation in Term 2, 2026.
Position Description: John Wollaston Anglican Community School (JWACS) is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and compassionate educational leader to join our future-focused school community as Head of Learning Area – Humanities and Social Sciences and Languages. This is a full-time, ongoing position commencing in 2026, at the beginning of the academic year, or the commencement of Term 2, by negotiation.
Responsibilities
In this middle leadership role, you will report to the Dean of Teaching and Learning and lead the Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) learning area, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, engaging, and future-focused curriculum that supports student achievement and growth.
The ability to teach History is desirable but not essential.
While your primary expertise will be in HASS, you will also provide oversight and instructional leadership to a small, dedicated Languages team. At JWACS, Japanese is the language offered, and you will work collaboratively with staff to foster intercultural understanding and promote language learning across the school.
As a key member of the middle leadership team, you will mentor and support teachers through collaborative planning, professional learning, and performance development processes.
You will play a central role in curriculum design, assessment moderation, and the effective management of resources within your learning areas.
This position also involves contributing to whole-school initiatives and strategic planning, while upholding the Anglican ethos and values that underpin the culture of JWACS.
As a New Metrics school, we value innovation in assessment and learning, and your leadership will contribute meaningfully to this future-focused work.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate educator to lead curriculum innovation, mentor staff, and foster excellence in teaching and learning across two key learning areas.
