Job Details:
We are seeking an experienced Simulation Technician to join our growing team at HMAS Watson in Sydney. This customer facing role will bring your proven experience to support simulation systems for the Royal Australian Navy.
The Simulation Technician maintains efficient, effective and reliable RHEL systems and assists with integration and testing of various combat simulators using various simulation protocols. Has an understanding of or experience with maritime training systems, local area networks and wide area networks. Liaises with internal and external agencies; and as required, assists simulation operators facilitate database management, game design and game construct. The simulation technician assists with the generation of technical test plans and exercise configurations, and supports the configuration management of the NSWC Systems.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the stability, security, efficiency of simulation specific software;
- Assist with integration of simulation systems using simulation architecture protocols HLA & DIS;
- Provide technical advice and maintain delivery of effective day to day operations using RHEL;
- Contribute to effective monitoring of system performance and capacity planning;
- Liaise with vendors and key stakeholders in relation to incidents, problems, solutions and ongoing support arrangements, including adhering to change management processes and procedures;
- Proactively maintain technical documentation for all existing operational and new ICT services, processes and procedures to support the management of deployed systems;
- Ensure that systems are maintained in accordance with the ISM in particular the Essential 8;
- Contribute to a cohesive team environment and positive high performing culture; and
- Development of continuous improvement of processes and practices to ensure business objectives and service delivery standards are achieved.
Minimum Job Requirements:
**Qualifications**:
Essential:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or IT-related discipline or equivalent experience, minimum Diploma level
Skills/Experience/Knowledge
Essential:
- Experience in a systems administration role preferably in a medium - large IT environment
- Linux System Administration experience with Linux Command Line / Shell Scripting
- Network knowledge & understanding (TCP/IP)
- Display curiosity, passion for technology, and a desire/aptitude to learn.
- Methodical approach to problem solving
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to diagnose and resolve system issues.
- Exposure to cyber security practices
- Good personal and professional communication skills and ability to collaborate with all various stakeholders
- _ You_ must _be eligible or currently _hold a minimum of (NV1) level Defence security clearance and eligible for ITAR requirements.
Desirable:
- Demonstrated background of networking technologies, Cisco routing and switching preferred
- Ex-serving Defence member with a background in an I.T Based role
- Familiarity and experience working with Naval Combat Management Systems (2+ years)
- Understanding of the RAN's operational structure, capabilities, warfighting principles, and doctrine
- Knowledge of ITIL service management practices and service design model
- Exposure to distributed simulation standards, DIS or HLA
- Disciplined approach to change management and system documentation
- Familiarity with as many as possible of the following:
- GCCS,
- Link16,
- Mcafee EPO,
- Virtualisation,
- Automation & Scripting (e.g. Ansible, Java, Bash, Powershel);
- Active Directory & LDAP, Domain Name Server, Group Policy Object.
