Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
**Main purpose of job**:
This is an exciting time to join the Department for International Trade (DIT) in Australia. The work we do has a real impact on jobs and growth across the United Kingdom and Australia. Our mission is to help businesses export, drive inward and outward investment, negotiate market access and trade deals, and to champion free trade. We are an international department based in 108 countries, and we work closely with our colleagues worldwide.
The Export Services (ESS) programme is the UK's Trade Support services programme, ensuring the delivery of a quality service to UK businesses looking to export to overseas. As an ESS Officer, you will be required to provide one-to-one advice for companies, working with them to understand their requirements and export plans, undertaking desk research and supplying relevant market information, introductions and referrals. You will cover a cross-section of sectors, including fast moving consumer goods and agritech, developing sector strategies to evaluate and deliver market opportunities for UK companies and identify new and emerging sector opportunities. You will utilize a wide range of internal and external sources of information and will be required to build and sustain relationships with key industry bodies, stakeholders and government departments. You will be expected to collaborate with the wider DIT Australia and New Zealand Network and may be required to lead or support events, visits, propensity work and represent the DIT at relevant industry events.
You will, with support from the ESS Hub, manage the local Overseas Referral Network (ORN), a database of bespoke in-market partners and experts, who can support specific UK company enquiries. Your role is to build and maintain productive relationships with potential ORN partners and manage service delivery and customer satisfaction.
You will help establish, implement, and improve ESS and DIT processes and measurements, including timely updating of customer relationship management tools, risks register, and more.
**Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?**:
As this is a newly created role to deliver a new service, roles and responsibilities may evolve and the jobholder will need to be flexible and adaptive. Below is an indication of the likely core aspects of the role:
**_ Account Management and Market Enquiry 80%_**
- Working collaboratively with trade and investment sector teams across Australia and New Zealand to identify relevant export opportunities for UK companies in the ANZ markets.
- Build strategic commercial networks and contacts in market to develop sector propositions, which accurately reflect the scale and value of commercial opportunities for UK companies.
- Conduct business develop research, produce sector reports, evaluate and disseminate business opportunities and market intelligence to support UK firms in making informed decisions about opportunities across sectors, with particular focus on the FMCG and AgriTech sectors.
- Represent the UK Government at relevant industry events, meet and brief UK businesses on the market and assist with the development of market entry and market growth strategies.
- Provide event management support for UK company launches, trade missions, exhibitions, and conferences, as well as, other internal and external DIT events as required.
- Maintain accurate and up to date data management by regularly tracking, evaluating and reporting on outcomes of activities.
- Ensure export account management is followed and businesses are linked appropriately in to the International Trade Advisor Network.
**_ As key point of contact for the Overseas Referral Network (ORN) you will be required to;_**
- Work with the APAC Export Services Hub to maintain and increase market intelligence to promote dialogue with clients and build relationships with business in each region, including with a view to building, updating and expanding the ORN.
- Work collaboratively with the British Business Network (BBN) to develop and implement an efficient and user-friendly ORN database.

- Ability to work proactively and build networks and contacts across a range of organisations.
- Good organisational and programme arranging skills.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
- Experience with CRM and data management systems, as well as experience with Excel, and event management platforms including Aventri and Maximail.
