Manage and professionally develop a team of Aboriginal Engagement Advisors

- Coordinate and action the implementation of appropriate and relevant cultural supports in line with evidence based best practice
- Identify and respond to systemic issues that impact on Aboriginal people's ability to meaningfully engage in culturally responsive pathways.

About the Business Unit
The Naalamba Ganbu and Nerrlinggu Yilam* (Yilam) is responsible for leading the design, development, implementation and monitoring of Corrections Victoria (CV) policies, programs and services aimed at reducing the over-representation of Aboriginal people within the Victorian correctional system. The Yilam seeks to do this by working in partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal community, related agencies, and CV staff to understand the needs of Aboriginal people in the correctional system to ensure effective policies, programs and services are in place. The Yilam's motto is Our People, Our Priority, Our Pride.
The Yilam sits within the Rehabilitation and Reintegration Branch. The Branch's purpose is to contribute to a safer community through a safe and humane corrections system that provides opportunities for rehabilitation, supports reintegration and working toward Aboriginal self-determination.
About the Role
As Assistant Manager, Aboriginal Engagement in the Yilam, you will be required to support Aboriginal staff and offenders in the correctional system by driving and implementing necessary change while implementing programs and services that will meet their needs. You will also identify and respond to systemic issues that impact on Aboriginal people's ability to meaningfully engage in culturally responsive pathways.
You will be a part of a strong cultural, supportive and collaborative team where culture and its principles are central in all the work that we do. You will also be provided opportunities to engage in the Department of Justice and Community Safety Aboriginal Staff Network activities including the annual state-wide Aboriginal Staff Network Conference and supported culturally and professionally to achieve your career aspirations.

**Some of your duties will include**:

- Supervise and support direct reports, ensuring they are meeting the requirements of their position description and are supported to professionally develop.
- Develop and implement key products supporting the Aboriginal Wellbeing Officer Staffing Model, including a recruitment and retention strategy and its recommended work items.

About you

**To be successful in this role, you will have**:

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal community, both society and culture, and the issues impacting it.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and work effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community
- A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the interface between Aboriginal issues and Government and service priorities.

**Qualifications**:
No relevant tertiary qualification is required but experience in dealing with the complex needs of Aboriginal people and community in complex environments and other relevant experience is desired.
