Western Health is offering a 12-month position designed to give a senior Advanced Trainee in Gastroenterology or a Gastroenterologist who has recently obtained FRACP qualifications, the opportunity to gain expertise in the assessment, clinical management and procedural skills required to perform interventional or therapeutic endoscopy.
**Training Objective**
The Fellow will receive training in ERCP, diagnostic and therapeutic EUS procedures, as well as other complex endoscopic procedures such as endoscopic mucosal resection, insertion of luminal stents and emergency endoscopy. There may also be the opportunity to gain some training in ESD.
**The Role/Duties**
- The Fellow will participate in a 1 in 4 nights general gastroenterology and GI bleeding oncall roster, together with the other advanced trainees in Gastroenterology
- Covering regular "bleeder spots"- these are dedicated slots for acute GI bleeding endoscopies or other inpatient endoscopies, and involve communication before and after the procedure with the patient, family and medical team members.
- Participation in weekly X-ray/pathology sessions and Unit meeting and presentation of cases which they have been involved with.
- There is a weekly interventional endoscopy clinic which the Fellow is expected to attend.
- Participation in student and resident teaching, and providing support for the more junior Gastroenterology trainees.
- Weekend ward rounds for inpatients at Footscray and Sunshine Hospitals on a 1 in 4 roster. This is combined with being oncall for that weekend (ie. on the 1 in 4 roster).
- Pay is at full registrar rates as per the Award.
**To be Successful in this Role you**
- Hold a Primary Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent)
- Have current registration with AHPRA as a medical practitioner
- Are in your final year of advanced training in Gastroenterology or already having FRACP qualification. Having FRACP qualification or equivalent in Gastroenterology is strongly preferred, but is not essential.
