Work Location :Eliwana - Fortescue's Eliwana mine is located on the traditional lands of the Puutu Kunti Kurrama & Pinikura (PKKP) People.
Roster : 8D / 6R / 7N / 7R (12-hour shifts)
Fixed-term / secondment opportunity until April 2026
The Mine Controller's primary objective is to ensure the safe, efficient, and smooth operation of Fortescue's mining fleet during and after the transition to our Fortex fleet management system.
This role supports the Supervisor - Mine Control by managing real-time fleet performance and facilitating the adoption of new system features and processes.
As Fortescue transitions from our existing Fleet Management system to Fortex, the Mine Controller plays a key role in embedding new workflows, focusing on improving efficiency and reducing manual interventions through an "intervene by exception" approach.
The Mine Controller collaborates closely with the Supervisor and other teams to improve control room operations, refine processes, and enhance communication between control, operations, and support teams.
This role ensures that control room practices align with Fortescue's goals for operational excellence, safety, and innovation.
By leveraging advanced technologies and maintaining high productivity, the Mine Controller contributes to Fortescue's transition to Net Zero and supports sustainable, autonomous mining practices.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and control fleet operations in real-time to ensure safety, efficiency, and productivity.
Address issues promptly and escalate when necessary.
Assist in transitioning from the existing Fleet Management system to the in-house, Fortescue-developed Fortex FMS system, ensuring minimal operational disruption.
Implement and adhere to new processes, workflows, and standards aligned with the Fortex system.
Identify opportunities to enhance control room efficiency, focusing on shifting from active control intervention to an "intervene by exception" model.
Maintain clear communication and coordination with operational and support teams to ensure alignment with site objectives and seamless issue resolution.
Participate in testing and commissioning of Fortex functionalities, providing feedback for system improvements.
Ensure accurate collection, monitoring, and analysis of operational data to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
Adhere to all safety standards, procedures, and regulations, ensuring control room activities meet Fortescue's safety and environmental policies.
Support training and development of team members in adopting new technologies and processes to enhance control room capabilities.
Contribute to Fortescue's broader goals of achieving Net Zero, driving innovation, and promoting sustainable mining practices.
Qualifications and Experience
Tertiary qualification in a mining-related field (desirable).
Ability to analyze data and operational performance to identify trends and optimize processes.
Strong communication skills for collaboration and providing timely updates.
Confidence in making quick, informed decisions in dynamic environments.
Flexibility to learn and implement new technologies and workflows effectively.
Knowledge of mining processes, equipment, and autonomous mining principles, especially control room operations.
Familiarity with autonomous mining principles and practices (desirable).
Proven ability to resolve operational challenges under pressure (desirable).
Strong understanding of fleet management systems and control room technologies (desirable).
Experience in mine control or similar roles within the mining industry (desirable).
Proficiency with fleet management systems like Fortex or similar platforms (desirable).
Experience supporting transitions or new system implementations in operational environments (desirable).
