The Associate Nurse Unit Manager acts as a responsible and effective team member and leader, assists in the overall clinical management of the ward and is responsible for the provision of comprehensive patient care and supervision of care given by nurses in accordance with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency).
This position is available with our Maternity Ward. We are the only private obstetric hospital in Geelong and have a Special Care Nursery staffed with neonatologists and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners caring for babies born from 34 weeks. We offer pre and post-natal support to women through our Pregnancy, Baby and Healthcare in the Home.
The Position:
Supervises nursing practice of all nursing caregivers taking responsibility for standard of nursing care delivered. Actively contributes to the development of clinical policies and procedures in area of specialty. Participates in and takes responsibility for the education of other caregivers by conducting formal and informal teaching sessions. Routinely monitors the results of diagnostic procedures and investigations and report abnormalities as required to the required caregiver. Systematically evaluates and documents the outcomes of nursing/medical interventions and report significant anomalies promptly. Ensures documentation of planned nursing care and holistic care plan and remains current and regularly evaluate documentation of the multidisciplinary team to determine their compliance to hospital policy. Assist the Nurse Manager with the submission of annual capital budget and business plans relevant to the Department. Reviews products and equipment and provides documentation and education on evaluation. Assists in developing, implementing and reviewing specific departmental orientation programs with Nurse Manager, acts as a preceptor as required. Participate in Manager Meetings as well as relevant committees and working parties. Acts as shift coordinator as required and in liaison with the Nurse / After Hours Manager and monitors staffing levels continuously to ensure appropriate numbers of skilled staff are available within the agreed productivity targets. Contributes to planning, problem solving and change management within the Nursing Division throughout the hospital as required. In collaboration with Nurse Unit Manager and Human Resources, monitors and promotes adherence by caregivers to hospital Policies, procedures and standards.
All other reasonable duties as directed by the relevant Manager/Supervisor.
You will hold registration with Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse and/or Midwife with significant recent experience and the ability to practice at an advanced level.
To succeed you will have well developed leadership skills and the ability to plan, assess and develop team and individual performance.
