Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Head of Compliance, located either in the Akron/Cleveland, OH area or in the Washington, D.C. market.
This executive will play a critical role in establishing and maintaining our compliance framework, including building relationships with sponsor banks, developing policies and procedures, and ensuring adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
The individual will also have the opportunity to build their own core team as Vera scales over the next two years.
This role reports directly to the Sr.
Vice President of Operations and is a key part of our initial leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
Architect and lead Vera's Compliance Management System, including oversight, policies, procedures, training, monitoring, testing, issue management, and coordination.
Act as a thought leader, providing guidance on complex problems and liaising with senior leaders on ongoing processes, new initiatives, and regulatory changes.
Serve as the primary compliance liaison with sponsor banks, fostering strong relationships with transparency and alignment.
Collaborate with the Sr.
Vice President of Operations to build compliance policies, procedures, SOPs, and contribute to front-line job aids and instructions.
Monitor and interpret regulatory changes affecting credit card management and servicing, ensuring process evolution for compliance.
Oversee the design and implementation of a customer-centric complaint management system that satisfies UDAAP and CFPB standards, integrating into CRM systems.
Manage responses to regulatory inquiries and lead examinations.
Help define and oversee Vera's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) strategy and coordinate internal audit planning.
Lead and develop a team of compliance professionals over the next 2-3 years, with direct responsibility for hiring and organizational structure development.
Qualifications
10+ years of compliance experience, preferably within fintech, banking, or financial services.
Deep knowledge of U.S. financial regulations: BSA/AML, GLBA, ECOA, FCRA, UDAAP, Reg-Z/TILA, CFPB guidelines.
Experience working with sponsor banks or in a BaaS environment.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
Experience building compliance programs from scratch in a startup or high-growth environment.
Bachelor's degree required; JD, MBA, or CRCM certification preferred.
