**Strategic Planner**
February 2025**

**Purpose**
Reporting to the Unit Manager Strategy and Risk, this role provides strategic oversight in the
development, governance, and execution of key corporate and strategic planning initiatives.

Operating in a dynamic environment, the position partners with high
- level stakeholders to
ensure the alignment with the City of Marion's Strategic Management Framework, while
overseeing strategic and corporate level planning, external grant funding and new initiative
development.

Key responsibilities include coordinating the development of the Annual Business Plan and
Budget, driving organisation
- wide strategy development, and managing initiatives that
enhance the council's strategic direction and achievement of its objectives.

Collaboration is at the core of this position, requiring close engagement with Executive
Managers and other leadership staff to deliver a full suite of planning, review and advisory
services, including training and support. Representing the City of Marion in external
engagements related to strategic plans at the community level is also a key component.

A critical aspect of this role is the ability to synthesise complex information into clear,
concise and insightful reports and presentations for the Executive and Council Members.
Additionally, the role may contribute to the development of other key corporate level plans
as needed.

By driving robust governance processes and supporting the organisation to strategically plan
and achieve outcomes, this role plays a pivotal part in shaping the long-term success and
sustainability of the City of Marion.

**Key Deliverables**

Key deliverables encompass achieving targeted goals, meeting project milestones, and
consistently producing high-quality and timely delivery of strategic projects.

The position, under direction from the Unit Manager Strategy and Risk includes:

- Leading and facilitating strategy development in partnership with high level

stakeholders and in a dynamic work environment
- Lead governance of corporate level work area planning across the organisation
- Lead the Annual Business Planning and Budget process
- Develop key strategic level plans within Council's Strategic Management Framework

and support the development of other council plans where required
- Maintain governance and oversight of external grant funding activity and develop and

present reports to the Executive Budget Committee
