The **Disability Support Worker (DSW) **provides assistance and support to people with disabilities, helping them to live independently and participate in their communities. Some of the duties and responsibilities of a disability support worker may include:

- **Providing Personal Care**:_ The disability support worker provides personal care to people with disabilities, such as assisting with toileting, showering, dressing, and grooming. DSW also helps with mobility and transfers, including using hoists or other specialized equipment and supporting them during physical therapy exercises.
- **Assisting with Daily Living Tasks**:_ The disability support worker helps people with disabilities to perform daily living tasks, such as preparing meals, cleaning, laundry, and shopping.
- **Supporting Social and Recreational Activities**:_ The disability support worker helps individuals with disabilities to participate in social and recreational activities, such as going to the movies, attending events, and participating in sports or hobbies. Similarly, the disability support worker accompanies clients to medical appointments, social outings, or other events, and provide assistance during these activities.
- **Providing Transportation**:_ The disability support worker assists people with disabilities in accessing transportation, including driving them to appointments or providing assistance in using public transportation.
- **Providing Health-Related Support**:_The disability support worker helps people with disabilities to manage their health, monitoring health conditions, and providing basic medical care.
- **Providing Emotional Support**:_The disability support worker offers emotional support to people with disabilities, such as listening to their concerns and providing a safe and supportive environment. If any, the disability support worker must work in line with the positive behaviour support plan developed for the clients by their behaviour specialist.
- **Supporting Independent Living**:_The disability support worker provides training and support to help clients develop skills for independent living, such as cooking, cleaning, and managing finances.
- **Administering Medication**:_the disability support worker may be responsible for administering medication or helping clients manage their medication in accordance with the medication administration policy, work health and safety procedures and client right's policies including privacy and confidentiality.
- **Maintaining Documentation**:_The disability support worker maintains accurate and detailed records of the care and support they provide, including daily logs, health records, and incident reports.
- **Monitoring and Reporting**:_The disability support worker may monitor clients' health and report any changes or concerns to healthcare professionals. Ensure completion of appropriate documentation. Relevant information on support provided is to be recorded in client notes and communication book as required.
- **Collaborating with other Professionals**:_The disability support worker may work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and therapists, to ensure the best possible care for their clients. The disability support worker may participate in the support planning and plan review process for individual clients and monitor outcomes.
- **Training & Development**:_ The disability support worker must actively contribute to a team environment through open communication, participation in regular staff meetings, planning processes and policy review. Participate in Performance Development meetings to identify ongoing training and support opportunities.
- **Ensuring Safety**:_The disability support worker is responsible for ensuring the safety of individuals with disabilities, including identifying and addressing potential safety hazards and responding to emergencies. The disability support worker must report any quality and safety incident or hazards at work to their service coordinator, supervisor or operations manager.
- **Supporting Education and Employment**:_The disability support worker assists individuals with disabilities in pursuing educational and employment opportunities, such as helping them to develop resumes, find job openings, and participate in job interviews.

**Qualifications**:

- Certificate III in Individual Support
- Certificate IV in Disability
- Certificate IV in Aged Care
