What you'll be doing: To ensure the smooth functioning of the CSSD and ensure patient safety is maintained at all times. To maintain the high standards necessary in the provision of sterilising services and thermal disinfection of reusable medical devices, including the collection and receipt of contaminated instruments and equipment for reprocessing, packing and sterilisation of reusable instruments. Ensuring compliance with AS5369:2023 Reprocessing of reusable medical devices and other devices in health and non-health related facilities & Infection Control Guidelines. Annual mandatory and competency-based training is required in addition to attending related in-services and contributing to WH&S and department enhancements. The primary purpose of the position is to provide sterile and thermally disinfected medical and surgical equipment to all areas for use in patient care in accordance with current Australian Standards and procedures developed by SSD Management. The reprocessing of Reusable Medical Devices (RMDs) used in Health Services Organisations, (HSOs) adhering to AS/NZS
Responsibilities
Provide sterile and thermally disinfected medical and surgical equipment to clinical areas in accordance with current Australian Standards and SSD procedures.
Maintain high standards in sterilisation and disinfection processes, including routine loading, cleaning, packing, sterilisation, and storage of reusable instruments.
Ensure compliance with AS5369:2023 and Infection Control Guidelines; participate in annual mandatory training and in-services.
Collaborate within the Sterilising Services team to support patient care and safety.
Qualifications
Certificate in Sterilisation technology with prior experience in a Sterilising Services department.
Good written and oral communication skills, and ability to listen and take direction.
Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment and work effectively within a team.
Understanding of Infection Prevention and Control guidelines, National Sterilisation standards and WH&S requirements.
Ability to meet all physical requirements as described in the position description.
