**About the team**:
The **National Measurement Institute** (NMI) is the Australian Government's national authority on measurement. We play an important role in the Australian economy by maintaining and regulating Australia's measurement system, developing and maintaining national measurement standards, and delivering world-class measurement products and client services. The **Legal Metrology Branch** (LMB) plays an important role in ensuring Australian consumers and industry can rely on trusted measurements for fair trade in goods and services. To ensure traders comply with the law and adopt correct measurement trading practices, we employ inspectors who check that measuring instruments (for example, weighing scales, fuel pumps and weighbridges) are accurate throughout Australia, pre-packaged articles contain the correct amount of produce, and that fuel sold in service stations complies with fuel quality standards.
The **Programs and Governance Section** within the LMB has oversight and is accountable for the delivery of a diverse range of business operational requirements, including trade measurement compliance program planning and providing corporate support to the General Manager, LMB.
**The opportunity**
The Assistant Manager, Governance is a dynamic role within the LMB who will work collaboratively with various internal stakeholders and LMB Section Managers to support the work of the LMB through governance, communications and stakeholder activities.
Supporting the Manager, Programs and Governance (P&G), the position holder will be responsible for a broad remit associated with corporate coordination. Corporate coordination includes media, Ministerial Correspondence, workplace health and safety, fleet management, property management strategy and management responsibility for the geographically dispersed Support Officer Unit who provide administrative support to LMB.
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, including well developed negotiation and presentation skills for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated high level stakeholder management skills with the ability to initiate, establish and maintain strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders. This includes the ability to negotiate, advise and influence others, as well as work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to balance their needs with those of the LMB.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, lead, a diverse team of staff and foster their development.
- Well-developed skills in research, analysis, problem solving, planning and organising to manage competing priorities and workloads.
- Demonstrated ability under broad direction to engage with and resolve complex issues, think strategically, undertake analysis and prepare high level policy advice, reports and briefings, interpret contracts and specifications to implement risk and principles-based technical policy in new and existing areas.
- Personal drive and integrity in the context of the APS values, NMI values (Inclusive, Innovative, Accountable, Adaptable, Influential and Strategic) and code of conduct. Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership in supporting others to do the same.
