**The Opportunity**

Our Port Kembla Innovation team is looking for a Surface Treatment Specialist**in our Product, Innovation and Technology team based in**Port Kembla.

In this specialised role, you'll bring your knowledge in specialist fields such as corrosion dynamics, chemistry, metallography and electrochemistry to conduct advanced, investigative, and analytical studies of our premium coated products, such as ZINCALUME, TRUECORE, GALVASPAN steel and DECKFORM steel. You'll work in both laboratory and operational settings - being hands-on with experimental design, execution of experimental programs, interpretation of experimental data and the development of physical models to evaluate surface interactions across weathering and built environments. You'll be engaged in a suite of interesting and challenging investigations, from prototyping new products to improving manufacturing efficiencies, whilst making our high-quality products more durable and technologically sophisticated.

**What Will You Do?**

You will continue to develop your fundamental chemistry knowledge of surface treatments for metallic coatings by:

- working safely with chemicals in both laboratory and manufacturing environments
- developing and delivering experimental plans for laboratory evaluation of surface treatments for metallic coated steel
- progressing successful laboratory surface treatments to proof-of-concept prototypes experiments and subsequent manufacturing trials
- developing physical models to describe the chemistry and formation mechanism of protective coatings
- developing and maintaining a current knowledge of corrosion protection and other treatments for metallic coatings used in the global industry

- a bachelor's degree, in either science (chemistry or materials) or engineering (chemical or materials)
- knowledge and experience of laboratory equipment and processes, including quality management principles with a focus on laboratory operations
