What you'll do
Apply broad scientific knowledge, skills and experience in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate to ensure that the pathology service meets the requirements of the Clinical Support Queensland.
Provide scientific advice and provision of results to Cairns Hospital and external clients relating to Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology and Microbiology in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards.
Apply multi-specialty scientific knowledge, skills and experience to the Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology, Microbiology and Central Specimen Reception sections in the Cairns Hospital Pathology Queensland Laboratory.
Work collaboratively with laboratory staff and the laboratory manager to minimise costs through strict inventory control, rostering and workflow design.
Perform all quality duties relating to the role including document control, analyser and calibration record keeping, external quality programme participation and appropriate use of internal quality control systems.
About you
We are searching for someone who has: Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent qualification.
Demonstrated ability to apply multi-specialty scientific judgement in Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology and Microbiology.
Demonstrated ability to provide scientific advice and provision of results to laboratory staff and Hospital and Health Service clients pertaining to Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology and Microbiology.
Demonstrated ability to provide scientific services in accordance with professional clinical standards, established principles / procedures and comprehensive operation and maintenance of analytical equipment.
Demonstrated ability to work within a team to contribute to the objectives of the laboratory.
Demonstrated ability to contribute to quality and service improvement activities in accordance with National Association of Testing Authority/International Standardisation Organisation (NATA/ISO) accreditation / certification.
