The OIC is an independent statutory body with powers under the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) (RTI Act) and Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) (IP Act) to promote and regulate access to government-held information and protect people's personal information held by the public sector.Our purpose, is to promote and independently uphold information access and privacy rights.
We facilitate greater and easier public access to government-held information and assist agencies understand their obligations under the IP Act to safeguard the personal information that they hold.
Our office reviews agency decisions about access to information, mediates privacy complaints, and monitors and reports on agency compliance to Parliament.

About the role
The role involves providing high-level strategic and authoritative advice on complex and emerging legislative and policy issues to the OIC executive leadership team.
A key focus is on delivering timely and expert guidance to ensure informed decision-making on critical privacy matters.
Additionally, the position requires establishing and maintaining effective networks with senior stakeholders across all levels of government and within OIC's jurisdiction to drive key initiatives and projects.
As a leader, you will supervise, mentor, and develop a team responsible for implementing a proactive privacy regulatory program.
This includes overseeing a fair and efficient complaint mediation service, managing assessments under the Mandatory Notification of Data Breach Scheme, and ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
You will also proactively identify and respond to complex issues arising from privacy complaints and breaches, providing clear and comprehensive briefings.
The role requires conducting high-level research, including legal analysis, to identify risks and develop options.
You will prepare submissions, briefings, reports, and correspondence on complex legislative and policy issues related to information privacy.
Furthermore, you will exercise delegated powers under the IP Act and undertake additional duties as required by the Information Commissioner and Privacy Commissioner.
This is a permanent, full-time position located at the OIC office in Brisbane City.
