**About the role**- Casual Role** (Code Red/Blue Response)**, ongoing**

We are seeking casual workers to assist at our WestCare Centre for occasions declared code red and code blue (extreme temperatures). There may be additional shifts on offer, but the primary function will be to these responses. WestCare which is located in Adelaide city, is a place clients can seek a safe place for food, shelter, support, advocacy and referrals. You will work as part of a small team, but your primary role will be to have a good understanding of the client group and the services available to them.

You will provide internal referrals for housing, and external referrals for a range of services relevant to client needs. The role also includes personal support and advocacy. Additional support to clients can then be referred to a resident case worker.

Your duties include, but not limited to:

- Build good rapport with clients, understand them, mix easily with them, engage their trust and respect
- Identify and prioritise the most vulnerable and unwell for intensive support
- Provide education and information for clients on a range of services available
- Ability to provide early intervention to clients who may be agitated thus preventing incidents from escalating
- Assist with service of lunch-time meals and receipt money and record statistics

**About you**:
You are a people-centred person with a holistic approach to care. You are able to build and maintain relationships with people from all walks of life, including those who have experienced homelessness and marginalisation, as well as addiction and mental health issues. You can land on your feet quickly, learning and understanding the help available to our clients. Conversations come easy to you whether its your peers or your clients and you embrace the opportunity to walk alongside clients during their journey.

You will also have the following skills and experience:

- Certificate IV in Community Services or similar. Extensive relevant experience will be considered in lieu of
- Experience in providing services to marginalised people experiencing homelessness, addiction or mental health issues
- Management of risk and ensure compliance with Workplace Health Safety to the highest standards

**Specific Requirements**:

You will be required to have, or be willing to obtain:

- DHS Child-Related Employment Screening or Working With Children check
- National Police Clearance
- Training: Provide First Aid (min HLTAID003)
- Training: Secure Environments for Children and Young People or willingness to obtain
- Ability to work outside of normal office hours may be required
- To be considered for employment with Baptist Care SA, you must have an up-to-date Covid 19 Vaccination status or be able to provide an appropriate medical exemption.
