Overview:
The Safety, Quality and Risk Officer is responsible for coordinating and supporting the achievement of high standards in the organisation and delivery of mental health services. This includes monitoring the treatment of voluntary and involuntary consumers, ensuring the rights of individuals with lived experience of mental health conditions are upheld, managing clinical risk, monitoring patient incidents, and leading serious incident review processes, investigations and inspections. The role also involves conducting in-depth analysis of clinical performance and improvement data, identifying trends, and producing comprehensive reports to drive continuous improvement and support the delivery of integrated, safe consumer pathways.

**About The Office of the Chief Psychiatrist, Safety & Quality team**:

- **Strategic Leadership**: Provides strategic leadership under the direction of the Chief Psychiatrist to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality mental health services across South Australia through effective governance, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement.
- **Collaborative Stakeholder Engagement**: Builds and maintains strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate, monitor, and report on safety, quality, and clinical risk management.
- **Lived Experience Engagement**: Embeds consumer and carer perspectives, including the voices and experiences of First Nations Australians, into safety and quality initiatives. Actively supports the lived experience workforce and promotes their participation in strategic processes to ensure services are culturally safe, responsive to diverse needs, and aligned with the rights of individuals accessing mental health care.
- **Investigations and Reviews**: Conducts investigations and reviews to uphold high standards, address risks, identify areas for improvement, and strengthen safety and quality frameworks.
- **Inspection Program**: Implements a structured inspection program to assess service quality, ensure compliance with standards, identify risks, and drive continuous improvement.
- **Policy and Standards Development**: Leads the development and implementation of policies and standards to promote best practices and foster a culture of safety and accountability across mental health services.
- **Research and Quality Improvement**: Collaborates with stakeholders to initiate and facilitate research and quality improvement activities aimed at enhancing clinical practice and ensuring the effectiveness of safety, quality, and clinical risk management frameworks, and analysing data and key performance indicators to measure progress and drive evidence-based improvements.
