**Summary**
The Fisheries Compliance Unit is currently looking for a suitably experienced, professional and dedicated person to join our team to fill the District Fisheries Officer - State-wide Environment Investigations Group (SEIG) South position. The position is responsible for leading aquatic environment and fish habitat compliance investigations and overseeing compliance programs within the Southern SEIG District as well as assisting with inland investigations as required. Fish habitats underpin the productivity of our State's fisheries resources. The position plays a critical role in protecting these habitats within our rivers, wetlands and coastal environments.

**About the Role**
You will be joining the Fisheries Compliance Unit within the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Fisheries. This team is responsible for administering fisheries laws governing the fisheries resources of the state. The teams spend a significant number of hours on patrol, detecting and preventing illegal fishing to reduce risk to fish stocks and aquatic habitats. In your new role as a District Fisheries Officer (DFO) - SEIG South you will be responsible for leading aquatic environment and fish habitat investigations within the Southern SEIG District, under Part 7 and Part 7A of the Fisheries Management Act 1994 and Part 5 of the Marine Estate Management Act 2014 as well as the activities listed below. The District covers the area which includes the South Coast to the Victorian border, the Southern Tablelands and the Monaro as well as assisting with inland investigations as required. The position reports to the Supervising Fisheries Officer (SFO) - Conservation & Offshore Compliance.
In addition, you will coordinate fisheries compliance activities including allocating resources, driving priorities and preparing evidence, prosecution briefs and briefing notes in line with Fisheries Compliance Unit policies.
This role will also engage in routine and targeted patrol duties and liaise effectively with clients, members of the public and external stakeholders by exercising sound judgement and providing informed advice.
**About You - What You Need to Apply**
- Lead and supervise a team of Fisheries Officers Grades 1-3, including the allocation and monitoring of tasks and facilitating the development of staff capability
- Undertaking and coordinating environmental and aquatic habitat compliance activities using a risk-based approach
- Planning and managing environmental and aquatic habitat fisheries compliance programs and operations
- Liaising with clients, members of the public and external stakeholders
- Preparing evidence, offence reports, briefing notes and correspondence
- Presenting evidence in court
- Ensuring financial and operational efficiencies are achieved within your area
- Maintain programs within budget constraints to achieve financial and operational efficiencies in the allocation of resources in the relevant area of responsibility
In addition to the above it is critical that you have the following in line with the Crown Employees Fisheries Staff Award which includes:
- Current manual driver's licence, and capability to drive a manual and four-wheel drive vehicle
- Current Coxswain's certificate* of competency (boat licence is **not** sufficient)
- Colour vision
- Swimming ability (200m)
- HSC or Equivalent
