OverviewWe have an exciting opportunity at Downer Group for an Automation Lead, a role that blends technical expertise, operations, and leadership.
This is a permanent role with a Hybrid work arrangement.
You will be part of a collaborative, close-knit team.
Reporting to the IT Platform Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the business-as-usual (BAU) support and operations of bespoke automation platforms, while also delivering enhancements and supporting technology-driven projects.
You will ensure platform stability, security, and scalability; collaborate with technical and business stakeholders; and lead a small team to deliver timely, high-quality service.
This role governs platform usage, ensuring all solutions are secure, compliant, and scalable while enabling business agility.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the daily BAU operations of key platforms, including Azure, Kofax, Power Platform and DotNet/SQL based solutions.
Collaborate with business users, IT teams, and vendors to support platform usage, resolve incidents, and respond to service requests.
Coordinate the delivery of minor enhancements and updates, ensuring resource utilisation is tracked and deadlines are met.
Support project delivery by overseeing solution design, integration, testing, and deployment activities.
Conduct platform risk assessments and implement remediation strategies to ensure reliability and compliance.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase automation, reduce manual processes, and enhance system performance.
Perform capacity planning, license forecasting, and health monitoring across platforms.
Provide mentoring and technical leadership to junior team members and offshore teams.
Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation on solution design, operations, and lessons learned.
What You Bring
Strong hands-on experience with C#, SQL Server, and Azure administration and development.
Proven experience in managing IT platforms and services in an enterprise environment.
Demonstrated ability to support both BAU operations and project-based work simultaneously.
Strong understanding of IT service management (ITSM), compliance, and governance frameworks.
Excellent problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills.
Solid understanding of compliance, data governance, and auditability in enterprise platforms.
Ability to balance governance with agility, enabling innovation while maintaining control.
