**Position overview**
The VBA is entering an exciting new phase - as we expand our regulatory footprint and amalgamate with allied and complementary services in becoming the Building and Plumbing Commission.
We are also refocussing all our regulatory activities towards better consumer protections and greater support of practitioners through targeted education and engagement.
To achieve our ambitious agenda, we are seeking multiple investigators, to join our highly valued, skilled and experienced team; so, we can expand our reach and support the quality and quantity of sustainable housing that is built to last.
Working within the broader Investigations Unit, the Investigator is responsible for assessing and investigating referrals from a range of internal and external sources. The Investigator is required to identify breaches of relevant legislation, regulations and professional standards to drive and ensure practitioners are adherent with relevant legislation, codes and Australian Standards. The Investigator is responsible for conducting interviews, preparing reports and detailed briefs of evidence, and participating in court and disciplinary hearings.
**What we are looking for**:**
- Demonstrated knowledge working with regulatory frameworks, regulations, codes and Australian standards. Experience with the Building Act 1993, Plumbing Regulations 2018, National Construction Code and relevant Australian standards would be highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience in a compliance or regulatory environment undertaking investigations.
- Experience in complex investigations involving alleged breaches of the legislation with objective thinking, ethical action and integrity.
- Well-developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills to assist with pursuing lines of inquiry, gathering evidence and information and preparing detailed reports.
- Certificate IV in Government (Investigations) or equivalent.

It also supports industry professionals by providing guidance, education, and resources to uphold safety, durability, and sustainability in building and plumbing work.
