**The opportunity we have available**:
The position in the Consumer Safeguards Branch will contribute to the development and delivery of strategic advice to the Minister and the Department's Executive Leadership Team on policy, program and contractual arrangements to ensure access to public interest communication services and effective consumer safeguards.

We are a flexible branch and regularly provide assistance across sections, you may also have the opportunity to work on broader issues including the Review into the Optus outage of 8 November 2023, consumers experiencing vulnerability (including those affected by Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence), the Telecommunications Consumer Protections (TCP) Code, the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO), Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN), telecommunications scams, unsolicited communications, captioning, audio description and Triple Zero.

This recruitment process may also be used to establish a merit list at the Executive Level 1 classification for future opportunities in the Communications Services and Consumer Division.

**What will you do?**:
In this role you will be required to perform duties in a dynamic and changing environment focused on delivering robust telecommunications consumer safeguards to the Australian community. You will be required to perform duties in accordance with the APS Values and Code of Conduct, including:

- Provide expert advice on telecommunications-related policy, solve complex problems and manage issues for internal and external stakeholders.
- Effectively manage contractual relationships to ensure delivery of required services. This includes the analysis of the operational performance of contracts managed by the Branch.
- Assist with the administration of grants programs.
- Represent the Department in interaction with external stakeholders and members of the public.
- Demonstrate analytical skills including the ability to problem solve, assess organisational impacts, risks and benefits.
- Produce written communication that is clear, concise and is readily understood by the intended audience. This will include drafting policy documents including reports and briefings (e.g. Estimates, Question Time and meeting briefs, as well as ministerial submissions and correspondence).
- Ability to take responsibility for own work in support of the achievement of team outcomes and delivery.
- Build team capability through coaching, providing performance feedback and may be required to directly supervise staff.
