The organisation:
The Uniting Church in Australia (the Church) is a large uniquely Australian Christian denomination in Australia with heritage from historical reformed evangelical denominations. In Queensland, the Uniting Church has around 250 congregations and has schools, colleges and large community services (such as UnitingCare Queensland and Wesley Mission Queensland).
Position purpose:
The purpose of this role is to manage, effectively and efficiently, the daily operations of the Outside School Hours Care (OSHC), ensuring Regulatory compliance to enable the delivery of high quality OSHC program and care of children outside school hours and vacation times.
Key responsibilities:
- Act as the Nominated Supervisor for the OSHC as per legislative requirements, ensuring the OSHC delivers and meets the National Quality Framework, regulatory compliance and approved learning frameworks.
- Lead and mentor direct reports to demonstrate a high standard of ethical and professional practice and behaviour that is in line with the Uniting Church vision and values.
- Provide leadership, perform day to day supervision, conduct performance appraisal/management and facilitate professional development of direct reports.
- Maintain a safe environment for children, families, employees and visitors and implement strategies to achieve safety outcomes, constantly driving continuous improvement, taking all reasonable care to ensure actions do not impact on the health and safety of employees, children and visitors.
- Support and encourage staff with the development of partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Nurture and grow professional networks and relevant professional associations to maintain contemporary awareness of current trends and evidence-based approaches in early childhood education and early childhood development.
- Ensure service improvement strategies support reconciliation and inclusion priorities and strategies of the Uniting Church in Australia, including the development and implementation of the Centre's Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).
- Ensure protecting children's safety and wellbeing is embedded in everyday practice, ensuring compliance with policy and procedures by all, by implementing the Safe Church Child Protection Framework and investigating all incidents/hazards.
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in children and focus on fostering a sense of belonging and treat all children with dignity and respect, embracing each child's unique family and background.
- Demonstrate the ability to guide children's behaviour in a positive way and encourage children to interact with others with care, empathy and respect Personal accountability.
- Participate in all care and education duties as required with all children at the service and undertake general cleaning tasks to maintain overall cleanliness of the room and service.
- Where food and beverages are provided by the service, ensure the food and beverages being provided are nutritious, adequate in quantity and chosen in consideration of individual children's dietary requirements. a weekly menu is to be displayed at the premises, accessible to parents, accurately describing the food and beverages being provided.
- Facilitate service reconciliation activities and build/maintain relationships with key community Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders and organisations.
- Monitor the implementation of the My Time, Our Place Framework (MTOP), supporting commitment to inclusion and access to activities and experiences for all children and families, treating all children with dignity and respect.
- Work collaboratively with the Manager, Early learning and Operations to enable the service to achieve best practice and quality outcomes.
- Manage resolution and escalation of complex, sensitive matters, as appropriate.
- Liaise regularly with the School Principal to ensure clear communication.
- Exemplify personal drive and integrity, taking personal responsibility for meeting objectives, showing initiative and committing energy to achieving goals, showing resilience and professional conduct under pressure and scrutiny.
- Develop and deliver the operational plan for the Synodal term.
- Ensure compliance with policy and procedures by self and direct reports including investigation of all incidents/hazards, ensuring that sufficient controls are in place to manage risks and compliance obligations.
- Implement the operational plan within accepted variance.
- Manage the cost centre budget within accepted variance.
- Model the values of the Uniting Church in Australia, Queensland Synod in day to day work including in interactions with managers, lay staff, ministry agents, clients and stakeholders.
- Identify and develop strategies to provide internal and external client focused customer service including identifying improvements to policy, process and the work environment.
