About the role: The Assistant Director of Nursing & Midwifery (ADONM) is a senior nursing leadership role, working in close partnership with the Director of Nursing & Midwifery – Footscray. This position plays a pivotal role in upholding professional standards and delivering high-quality, person-centred care across the Surgery, Endoscopy and Anaesthesia Division at Western Health
As a key clinical leader, the ADONM will actively contribute to strategic initiatives, clinical governance, and operational excellence, including leading the Real Time Location System (RTLS) implementation for patients at risk of wandering in preparation for the transition to the New Footscray Hospital, and supporting blood management improvement activities under NSQHS Standard
This role requires a collaborative and proactive leader who is passionate about nursing excellence, workforce development, and improving the consumer experience. The ADONM will serve as a professional resource and a point of contact for nursing matters across the division, especially in the absence of the Director. You will lead or support complex projects, monitor care quality, contribute to policy development, and mentor the next generation of nurse leaders
Key responsibilities:
  • Ensure Excellence in Clinical Care - Uphold professional nursing standards and lead quality improvement initiatives to ensure safe, person-centred care across the Surgery, Endoscopy and Anaesthesia Division.
  • Lead Strategic Initiatives - Drive the implementation of key projects including the Real Time Location System (RTLS) for wandering patients and support preparation for the New Footscray Hospital transition.
  • Provide Visible Leadership and Support - Act as an onsite nursing leader and key contact in the absence of the Director, supporting unit managers and frontline staff with guidance and timely decision-making.
  • Collaborate Across the Organisation - Work closely with other ADONMs and multidisciplinary teams to align nursing priorities with organisational goals and support system wide improvements.
  • Lead and support activities related to Standard 7 – Blood Management, ensuring safe, appropriate, and efficient use of blood and blood products in alignment with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards and organisational policies.
About you:
  • You are a values-driven senior nurse with current AHPRA registration and proven leadership experience at a Unit Manager level or above.
  • You have strong clinical expertise and a passion for delivering safe, person-centred care, with a track record of leading change to improve outcomes.
  • You are proactive and strategic, with sound judgment and a strong focus on risk management, clinical governance, and professional standards.
  • You demonstrate autonomy and initiative while working collaboratively across diverse teams to influence and drive organisational goals.
  • You are skilled in planning, implementing, and evaluating initiatives, with the ability to manage complex projects and contribute across the domains of leadership, research, education, evidence-based practice and clinical expertise.
