About the role
The Assistant Director of Nursing & Midwifery (ADONM) – Future Care Models is a senior leadership role focused on shaping the future of nursing and midwifery practice across Western Health. The role aims to ensure advanced practice roles are impactful, career pathways are accessible, and models of care including virtual and community based services are well designed, sustainable, and aligned with best practice and strategic priorities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Future Care Model Development - Lead scoping, planning, and evaluation of new care models including virtual care for inpatient in preparation for the Melton and New Footscray Hospitals.
  • Advanced Practice Expansion - Drive the implementation and expansion of advanced practice roles, such as Nurse Practitioners and Candidates, Advanced Practice Nurses and Endorsed Midwives, partnered prescribing models for Registered Nurses and clinical supervision and credentialing frameworks
  • Strategic and Project Leadership - Support Department of Health funded career development and leadership initiatives, align initiatives with Western Health's Professional Practice Framework and Enterprise Bargaining Agreement changes, coordinate special projects and provide professional governance and reporting on milestones.
  • Governance and Professional Standards - Serve as a key liaison to the Scope of Practice and Credentialling Committee, working with Directors of Nursing & Midwifery to ensure advanced practice roles meet governance, registration, and safety standards, promote adherence to NMBA professional standards and Western Health policies.

About you:

  • You are a dynamic and forward-thinking nursing or midwifery professional with a strong clinical foundation and a passion for shaping the future of care. As a confident leader and experienced project manager, you bring a deep understanding of virtual care models, advanced practice roles, and system transformation.
  • You are registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and have demonstrated success in senior clinical roles, such as Unit Manager or above. Your postgraduate qualifications and/or significant clinical experience are complemented by a strong commitment to person-centred, high-quality care and continuous professional development.
  • Your ability to lead complex projects from concept to implementation sets you apart. You thrive in autonomous roles while also collaborating effectively across diverse teams. Your organisational skills, attention to detail, and clinical leadership are matched by your adaptability and problem-solving abilities.
  • You are skilled in the design, implementation, and evaluation of virtual or digitally enabled healthcare services, with a sound understanding of the governance, ethical and regulatory requirements associated with these models.
