The Clinical Nurse Consultant (Grade 1) Hospital Drug and Alcohol Consultation Liaison staff will provide assessment and management support of patients with drug and alcohol related conditions during Emergency Department presentations and/or hospital admissions. The aim of Hospital Drug and Alcohol Consultation Liaison (HDA-CL) is to enhance the safety, clinical outcomes, quality and efficiency of services for patients with substance use disorders in hospitals across the ISLHD, including the Safe Assessment Unit (SAU).
The Safe Assessment Unit is a designated unit providing support, early dual diagnosis intervention, and a calming therapeutic environment to patients exhibiting behaviours of concern, including drug and alcohol intoxication and/or withdrawal.
The HDA-CL nurse is a clinical expert who, through leadership, facilitates excellence in research based clinical practice, delivers education and management advice to health care professionals, participates in research and provides professional leadership. The HDA-CL staff model the CORE (Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment) values of the organisation. The position is based out of Shellharbour Hospital, however will be expected to travel across the district including the D&A service at Orana.

- Applicable vaccination requirements for a Category A role
- Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- Current AHPRA Registration
- At least five years full time equivalent post registration experience and in addition has approved post registration qualifications within the Drug & Alcohol specialty or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation
- Valid NSW Drivers Licence
This is a temporarily funded position until 28 June 2026 with the possibility of an extension subject to funding.
