Laboratory Manager

Full-time | $100,000 per annum | Tasmania

Hale Farm is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to lead operations in our extraction and processing facility. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring oversight of laboratory operations, production, compliance, and team management.

Our facility focuses on processing plant-based materials into a range of refined products, including resin, isolates, and other natural extracts. The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise in extraction and production, extensive leadership experience, and proven operational excellence in regulated environments.

We understand that the medical cannabis industry in Australia is small, so for the right candidate, we are open to supporting visa sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate day-to-day laboratory operations, including extraction, manufacturing, dosing, packaging, and product development
  • Develop, implement, and monitor laboratory procedures, policies, and quality systems (GMP/ISO compliant)
  • Manage and mentor high-performance laboratory teams, including recruitment, training, and performance management across multiple departments
  • Oversee acquisition, installation, commissioning, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and facility infrastructure
  • Drive operational efficiency, workflow optimisation, and high-throughput production
  • Lead product development and launch initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and market requirements
  • Ensure strict adherence to occupational health and safety, environmental regulations, and internal quality standards
  • Oversee cultivation operations as required to align production and extraction pipelines
  • Liaise with management and external stakeholders to report operational performance, improvements, and innovations

Skills and Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in laboratory management and operations, with a proven track record in high-output, regulated facilities
  • Proven expertise in extraction methods, particularly light hydrocarbon extraction, with experience producing ultra-high purity isolates and a full spectrum of cannabis-derived products
  • Hands-on cultivation experience, with oversight of multiple vertically integrated facilities and indoor hydroponic systems
  • Extensive leadership experience, including building, training, and managing high-performance teams across extraction, production, cultivation, and packaging
  • Strong compliance, safety, and regulatory knowledge with a flawless audit record
  • Experience in organisational development, process optimisation, and scaling operations in highly regulated environments
  • Technical proficiency with software and industry platforms including LIMS systems, formulation software, and ERP platforms (METRC, Canix, Trellis, etc.)
  • Six Sigma certified and experienced in process flow controls to minimise errors and waste
