We are searching for an experienced and knowledgeable Operations Manager for Bethlehem House. Bethlehem House has been operational for over 50 years, offering accommodation for up to 70 men experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Hobart.
Strongly supported by the Executive Manager and St Vincent de Paul operations team, this role is underpinned by an experienced, supportive and well established team on-site.
Responsible for the effective and compliant ongoing operations of Bethlehem House. The position manages support workers and the facility management team, while also ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures and relevant legislation.
Working closely with the Operations Coordinator, there is a strong focus on facility management that enables care and support of male residents in short term accommodation across several facilities.
The position aims to ensure that, through operational management, Bethlehem House continues to provide appropriate support and care to its residents in line with the required legislation and in accordance with our mission and purpose.

Essential Requirements
- Relatable experience in community service, mental health support, drug and alcohol program support and/or a social services setting is highly advantageous.
- Understanding of the current housing crisis, the experience of homelessness, and the barriers faced in overcoming associated challenges.
- Confidently manage staff teams on a 24/7 rotating roster, focusing on collaboration, support and staff wellbeing.
- Ability to lead in the development of formal agreements with other parties (eg State Government, grant funding), by working with the Executive Manager in developing submissions, budgets, project management plans and monitoring for achievement of outcomes through effective and timely reporting.
- Support the development of budgets and monitoring of financial reports to ensure targets are maintained.
- Ability to contribute collaboratively to the development and creation of policies and procedures.
- Manage facility security, systems, contractors and maintenance with a risk management focus.
- Create and manage appropriate stakeholder relationships with relevant organisations to provide a wider range of services and support to residents.
- Ability to work as part of a cohesive team, taking a supportive approach to engaging with colleagues and residents that embraces trauma-informed care and support.
- Exceptional time management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of cohorts, displaying empathy and fairness in all interactions.
- Strong commitment to confidentiality and an understanding of privacy principles.
- Sound administrative capacity and the ability to adapt to and learn new platforms quickly.
- Commitment to work together with the greater SVDP Tas team in achieving against strategic and operational plans.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changes in work priorities, styles and environment, recognising the need to be responsive in a context that can change rapidly.
