Plan Safe is a boutique specialist engineering consultancy delivering end-to-end consultancy for some of the most complex and fascinating projects in Australia. Our projects span across aerospace, space, aviation, defence, rail, and nuclear including:

  • OneSKY Air Traffic Management System
  • Nancy Bird Walton, Western Sydney International Airport
  • Queensland Train Manufacturing Project
  • Inland Rail
  • Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport
  • TfNSW Digital Systems Program.

Given this, we're growing. Plan Safe is looking for a Systems Safety Engineer who wants to contribute to the future of transport in Australia (Candidates in Sydney or Brisbane will be considered).

The role:

As part of the day to day tasks of the role, you will:


• Create and review Safety Assurance Plans for client projects that address the full system lifecycle


• Develop and review Safety Assurance Statements and Reports


• Provide justification of achievement of Safety So Far As is Reasonably Practicable (SFAIRP)


• Manage and review Hazard Logs associated with various projects


• Participate in and facilitate hazard identification and assessments such as PHA, SHA, FMECA, HAZOP etc


• Use engineering change management tools to ensure design modifications are adequately assessed


• Construct safety arguments using GSN and CAE


• Engage in the derivation of safety related requirements and in Verifying and Validating them through relevant project lifecycle stages


• Advising on the safe design and installation of safety critical systems.

About you:

The following qualifications and experience are necessary for this position:


• Relevant degree in engineering, computer science or risk / safety


• At least 2 years' experience working in Systems Safety / RAMS


• Experience working in a safety or systems engineering role within aviation or defence industries


• Authoring and editing safety plans and safety cases using GSN and/or CAE methodologies


• Demonstrated experience in the application of safety regulations such as International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Regulations and Certification


• Thorough understanding of Australian safety related legislation such as WHS and CASR


• High level communication and negotiation skills, including advanced report writing skills

Desirable experience:


• Experience with Air Traffic Management Systems or communications systems


• Experienced with Space Industry Regulations and practices


• Airworthiness and Part 21.J Design Certification.
