Commencing in January 2026, for a period of two years, we are looking for a Cadet Town Planner to join our organisation.

In this role, you will build upon your studies by undertaking a cadet program in town planning, gaining experience in development related matters. You will have a training plan developed specifically for you, giving you the opportunity to obtain practical experience including review and assessment of development applications, as well as provision of advice to our customers.

This entry level position provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in Council's planning and development assessment functions.

About you

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to deliver quality customer service.
  • Hold a basic understanding of development assessment in NSW.
  • Have experience or understanding in undertaking research, analysis and presentation of information.
  • Be experienced in effectively prioritising tasks, meeting deadlines and continuously improving.
  • Have a current Class C driver's licence.

This role is suitable for students who are entering their second, third or fourth year of their degree qualification in Town Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Science or a related discipline. You will be required to complete your study whilst working four days a week. You will be provided one day per week paid study leave.

Benefits

This is a full time, temporary role (two-year contract) working a 35-hour week, with a salary range of $55,816.80 up to $58,494.80 per year + 12% super. Commencing salary is dependent on progression through university.

Council will also cover the full cost of the university subjects you complete during your cadetship. As a council employee you will also have access to staff benefits such as flexible working arrangements & fitness passport.
