War Memorial Hospital (WMH) is a 3rd Schedule Aged Rehabilitation hospital, situated in Waverley, owned and operated by Uniting and part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). Services are comprised of 24-hour inpatient care, Monday to Friday outpatient departments, iREAP Day Rehabilitation program, several specialist community teams inclusive of Transitional Aged Care, Geriatric Flying Squad, Young Onset Dementia, and day centre program, 24-hour accommodation service for regional guests and the full range of hospital support services. The Food Services Assistant- Café/Kiosk role is primarily based in the onsite hospital cafe and kiosk and is responsible for maintaining a hygienic and safe environment, focusing on a high standard of customer service, food and beverage preparation and cash handling. This position also at times works as part of the hospital food service team and can be rostered across food services roles in the kitchen and inpatient department.

The Food Services role is responsible for the receipt, preparation, serving and clearing of food to our aged care rehabilitation patients and assists in providing effective and well managed food service operations to ensure the correct meal goes to the correct patient, at the correct time and at the correct temperature within patient care services, and a high level of customer service within the retail environment. The role is also involved in the preparation of food for hospital functions. The expectation is of a high level of customer service, delivered in a courteous, timely and safe manner.

All Hospital Assistants have some direct patient contact as well as with various members of the healthcare team including nursing, allied health and support staff. This role will be primarily rostered in the Hospital Café/Kiosk with public facing customers, clients, patient and staff as primary customers.

This role is well supported by the Hotel Services Manager.

This position is a Full-time permanent role of 76 hrs per fortnight.

Selection Criteria

• Demonstrated experience as a Hospital Assistant or similar position within a Food Services area
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience of food safety, handling and hygiene procedures with relevant certificate or willingness to attain same.
• Proven interpersonal, written, electronic and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with patients, visitors and other staff across all levels in the Hospital and computer skills relevant to the role and mandatory training requirements
• Demonstrated ability to work well supervised, within a team and also independently following schedules and instructions
• Previous experience or desire to work in an aged care environment
• Knowledge and experience or willingness to learn in a retail food service environment
• Awareness of Work Health Safety and Infection Control principles

Desirable:

Barista or Café experience.
