Youth Mental Health Peer Worker

The position is a Full-time, 2 year Max Term contract role until June 2027.
The Youth Mental Health Peer Worker is a specialist role designed to work with young people and their support networks to assist in addressing factors that contribute to emotional or mental distress.
The overall goal of this support is to enhance the well-being and functioning of young people and communities and to help them recover from adversity and move forward in their lives.
You will contribute to higher engagement rates, improved safety and wellbeing outcomes and a more integrated approach within the service.
Role Overview
• Provide lived experience-driven psychosocial supports that are tailored to the uniqueness of each young person and their situation
• Develop and sustain trust-based, culturally sensitive relationships with young people and their family whilst maintaining professional boundaries
• Deliver Peer Support - provide one-on-one and group support sessions
• Develop and sustain trust-based, culturally sensitive relationships with young people and their family
• Support young people and family understanding and navigation of the headspace program, wider Mental Health system and relevant support services
• Communicate effectively with internal teams and external service providers to ensure a holistic approach to support
• Actively participate in feedback sessions, team reviews and quality audits
You will have
• Personal experience of ongoing recovery from emotional or mental distress
• Demonstrated ability to engage and communicate effectively with young people and their family, friends or carers
• Relevant experience in the mental health or disability sector - preferred
• Degree, diploma or Cert IV in Mental Health / Peer work (or willing to work towards)
• Compliance checks: NDIS Worker Screening, NSW Working with Children Check and Current Police Check (not older than 3 months)
