As an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organization, we focus on delivering holistic and integrated health services that meet the unique needs of our community.
Our organization comprises three key areas: Health Services, Social Services, and Corporate Services, which collaborate to achieve meaningful outcomes for our clients. The Family Participation Program, part of our Social Services Team, plays a crucial role in supporting families involved in the child protection system.
Position OverviewThe Family Participation Facilitator is instrumental in facilitating family-led decision-making processes for families with children at risk of entering the child protection system or currently involved in it. This role emphasizes the importance of self-determination and cultural safety in decision-making, ensuring that families can navigate challenges and contribute meaningfully to discussions that affect their children.
As a Family Participation Facilitator, you will work closely with families, support services, and other stakeholders to create a collaborative environment where families can articulate their needs and develop plans that prioritize the safety and well-being of their children.
Ideal Candidate ProfileWe are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate individual with a strong commitment to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Certificate IV qualifications in Social and/or Community Services (including Child, Youth & Families) or equivalent experience.
- Experience working with children, families, or in community-based roles related to child protection.
- Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the social factors impacting these communities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999 and the principles guiding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement.
- Proficiency in developing family plans and safety plans based on collaborative discussions.
The successful candidate will also need a current 'C' Class Driver's License (Queensland), a Working with Children Blue Card, and current National Police Check (within the last 6 months) prior to commencing in the position.
Selection CriteriaSC 1 Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the social, economic and cultural factors affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
SC 2 Demonstrated evidence of well-developed interpersonal communication skills both oral and written, including the ability to liaise and network with a range of stakeholders and effectively articulate the interests of, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families where applicable across the Child Protection continuum.
SC 3 Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as work within a multi-disciplinary team environment focusing on meeting competing priorities and achieving goals within specific timeframes.
SC 4 Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Child Protection Act 1999 and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principles with an ability to manage matters of a sensitive and confidential nature.
SC 5 Knowledge and understanding of the principles of client centred case management and demonstrated ability in applying such principles.
SC 6 Sound understanding of child protection issues and family support approaches including issues impacting children and families with complex family dynamics and needs.
