MidCoast Council is offering a fantastic opportunity for a motivated student to join our Organisational Strategy and People team as a School-Based Administration Trainee. This role allows you to work one day per week while completing a Certificate III in Business Administration, giving you valuable skills, confidence, and a strong foundation for your future career.

The role
As a School-Based Trainee in the HR team, you will:

  • Learn practical administration and HR skills in a supportive and inclusive environment
  • Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, training, and staff development activities
  • Assist with maintaining employee records, preparing documents, and updating systems
  • Build confidence interacting with employees across Council
  • Be part of a team committed to cultural safety, continuous learning, and supporting your success

This traineeship is a great pathway into careers such as Human Resources, Business Administration, Customer Service, or Local Government.

Who We're Looking For
This is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identified Position, open only to applicants who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and can provide a confirmation of identity.

We'd love to hear from you if you are:

  • Currently inYear 10 or 11 and eligible for a School-Based Traineeship
  • Interested in human resources, or business administration
  • Keen to learn, reliable, and able to balance school, work, and study
  • Comfortable using basic computer programs (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Friendly, respectful, and willing to be part of a team

No previous experience is required — just a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.

Please Note

  • This School Based Traineeship is funded under the Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Grant within Skills and Workforce Pathways. This Initiative is designed to support Aboriginal people to access employment and career development pathways into the NSW Public Sector or Aboriginal community-controlled organisations.
  • The successful candidate will be required to complete a pre-employment skills assessment

Salary :
Trainees are paid in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award 2023. Rates are dependent on age and qualification. Click here to view pay scale.

Location:
This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure:
Part-time 1 day per week (7 hours) over a 24-month period.

Friday 19 December 2025 at 11.30 pm.
