About the role
As a Principal Engineer, you'll be a technical authority within a critical application domain, shaping engineering excellence and guiding strategic delivery. You'll support the Energy Markets & Development function, which plays a vital role in managing market operations, risk, and commercial outcomes. Your work will enable platforms and tools that help AGL meet its strategic goals. Some of the things you'll do are:
- Lead technical direction for critical software assets and functions at AGL
- Provide architectural guidance, governance, and leadership in software delivery
- Drive engineering excellence by managing technical debt and uplifting capability
- Shape and influence multi-year technical roadmaps across teams
- Collaborate in SAFe agile, cross-functional build-and-run teams across value streams
- Act as a senior technical authority with deep expertise and strong leadership
- Own software design, DevOps, CICD, integration, quality, and asset health
We're looking for people who have:
- Demonstrated expertise in relevant technical domains including programming, infrastructure, DevOps, CICD, and quality engineering
- Strong understanding of industry trends and best practices, with a proven ability to implement them effectively
- Skilled in mentoring and coaching engineers to grow capability and encourage diverse technical perspectives
- Able to lead and provide technical direction across teams, driving alignment and delivery
- Influences key stakeholders and confidently challenges development practices to drive measurable improvements and deliver stronger outcomes
