The Australian Wagyu Association (AWA) is a globally recognised leader in agriculture, livestock genetics, and breed performance. Representing Wagyu producers across Australia and internationally, AWA drives continuous improvement in genetic evaluation, data analytics, and digital transformation to deliver value to its members and the beef industry.

We're seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) — a dynamic, strategic, and people-focused leader to oversee AWA's daily operations and help deliver on our mission of advancing Wagyu excellence from paddock to plate.

About The Role
Based in Armidale, NSW, the COO will report to the CEO and manage key operational areas across Australia and AWA's international operations.

This executive position will drive performance across member services, genetic improvement, IT systems and data programs, ensuring efficient, compliant, and high-impact operations.

You'll work closely with the CEO, Board, and stakeholders to implement strategic initiatives, strengthen partnerships, and foster a culture of innovation and accountability.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Postgraduate qualifications in quantitative genetics, or extensive practical experience managing breeding programs for genetic improvement.
  • Proven experience in the livestock or red meat industry, with strong industry relationships and understanding of the Wagyu Sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct or oversee genetic analyses using pedigree, performance, and genomic data.
  • Experience managing large-scale projects and research programs, including data management and reporting.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong executive level and governance experience including reporting to Boards.
  • Demonstrated customer and team leadership focus.

Highly Desirable

  • Experience in beef industry breeding and recording programs and practical application of genetic principles.

To Succeed In This Role, You'll Have

  • Senior leadership experience in agriculture, livestock, agribusiness, or member-based organisations.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams and deliver operational results.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Financial management and corporate governance experience.
  • Experience leading digital or IT transformation (desirable).
